For the first time, the MPI report overlays climate-hazard data on poverty measured across health, education and living standards.
Key facts
- About 887 million poor people (8 in 10) face hazards such as heat, floods, drought, air pollution.
- 651 million face two or more; 309 million face three or four together.
- South Asia: 91.6% face two or more hazards, the world’s highest.
- India and Bangladesh cut poverty, yet climate shocks threaten the gains.
