Export Promotion Mission to bear certification cost for micro, small units
Why in the news
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in Berlin on 23 October 2026 that the government is ready to pay the entire certification cost for micro and small exporters through the Export Promotion Mission (EPM).
Key facts
- Certification support: micro and small enterprises can get the full cost of export certifications covered under the EPM; very costly processes will also get support.
- CBAM: the government is looking at approving verification agencies within India to lower the cost of complying with the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and deforestation-related rules.
- For micro and small units, almost the whole CBAM and deforestation compliance cost would be met; other exporters would get graded financial support.
- Exporters in any sector were urged to contact the DGFT.
- Goyal noted that agricultural and fisheries exports had reached about ₹5 lakh crore and that India exports about 10 lakh vehicles.
About the India-Germany talks
During the visit, Goyal met Katherina Reiche, Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. They discussed the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement, closer industrial ties and converting the FTA into business deals. The two ministers also jointly inaugurated an India Centre at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) for policy research and dialogue.
