Delhi-NCR Air Pollution: Yadav Meets Start-ups, CAQM Reviews Enforcement
Why in the news
On 17 October 2026, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav held a meeting with start-ups in New Delhi on technology for tackling air pollution in Delhi-NCR. Separately, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reviewed enforcement action across the region.
Key facts
- Start-up meeting: Yadav called it a novel, proactive step to connect policymakers with innovators working on practical, scalable solutions.
- Artificial intelligence: The main focus was using AI and other tools to move towards real-time understanding of pollution.
- Waste: Start-ups were urged to devise eco-friendly ways to manage crop residue, solid waste and construction and demolition (C&D) waste.
- Other priorities: City-wide air-quality monitoring, cleaner vehicles and smoother traffic management.
- Enforcement Task Force: CAQM’s task force reviewed 124 inspections made from 25 September to 10 October.
| Sector | Inspections |
|---|---|
| Construction and demolition sites | 6 |
| Industrial units | 54 |
| Diesel generator (DG) sets | 64 |
| Total | 124 |
Based on violations, closure of 2 C&D projects and 3 industrial units, and sealing of 12 units in the industrial and DG sectors, were proposed. The task force asked that inspections preferably target Red and Orange category industries, especially those running furnaces and boilers, with swift action and strict compliance monitoring.
