12. PSBs Seek 2% Climate Finance Sub-Target in PSL

  • PSBs want 2% of priority sector lending (PSL) carved out for climate and transition finance.
  • Scheduled commercial banks must direct 40% of their Adjusted Net Bank Credit towards priority sectors.
  • Banks want a ₹75 crore limit for wind and small hydro, ₹35 crore kept for solar, and ₹100 crore per borrower overall.
  • Transition finance supports emission cuts in high-carbon industries, unlike green finance for already-clean activity.
  • The climate finance taxonomy is still unfinalised; India's target is net zero by 2070.

14. BRICS NDB: Iran Eyes Membership; PM CARES Fund Accounts

  • Iran's central bank governor said Iran is advancing toward membership of the BRICS New Development Bank, speaking at the Jaipur BRICS finance meeting.
  • The NDB is headquartered in Shanghai; its Agreement was signed on 15 July 2014 and it came into force in July 2015.
  • Uzbekistan joined on 5 June 2026 as the NDB's tenth member; Uruguay, Colombia, Ethiopia, Angola and Zimbabwe are prospective members.
  • PM CARES Fund's FY25 accounts showed ₹1,279.9 crore income, ₹87.85 lakh expenditure and an ₹8,452.06 crore closing balance.
