C-DOT Sets Up Fourth Centre of Excellence at IIT Hyderabad
Why in the news
The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and IIT Hyderabad created a Centre of Excellence in advanced communication technologies, with an MoU reported on 24 June.
Key facts
- Rank: C-DOT’s fourth Centre of Excellence; earlier ones are at IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Roorkee.
- Research: 5G Advanced/6G, very large-scale MIMO, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), AI-enabled networks, quantum and post-quantum communication.
- Startup: WiSig Networks, incubated at IIT Hyderabad, for O-RAN 5G solutions.
- Signatories: Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay (C-DOT) and Prof. B.S. Murty (IIT Hyderabad).
About C-DOT
- C-DOT is the telecom technology development centre.
- Solutions mentioned in the reports include TRINETRA (cybersecurity), Sanchar Saathi (AI-based fraud detection) and MCX (emergency communication).
- O-RAN stands for open radio access network, an approach that disaggregates 5G network equipment.
Exam angle
- Remember the order of C-DOT CoE hosts and that Hyderabad is the fourth.
- ISAC means integrated sensing and communication.
- Link C-DOT with telecom R&D and indigenous 5G/6G efforts.
