Why in the news
Home Affairs officials were looking at stationing Border Wing Home Guards on the China frontier, copying the India-Pakistan model, so that ITBP and the Army get help with intelligence, presence and local engagement.

- Nature: civilian volunteers from border-area residents, ancillary to Border Guarding Forces and the Army in emergencies.
- Seven states have authorisation: Meghalaya, Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat.
- Working now: only Rajasthan (2,279 active members).
- Role and tenure: constable-level duties; enlistment for 3-4 years.
- Funding: Government of India bears 25% of training and support.
