Positioning

  • Unlike nano-urea (nitrogen) and nano-DAP (nitrogen and phosphorus), these are metal-based inputs.
  • Pitched as “fertilizer plus”: boosts plant immunity, lowers disease pressure, protects crops and supplies micronutrients such as copper and iron.

Evidence cited

  • ICAR Bangalore tomato trials of AgroBeize showed a 24% higher yield than conventional fungicides, with better quality and less blight.
  • The company claims gains up to 30% in tomatoes, chillies, black pepper, pomegranates and flowers.
  • OECD studies are cited for safety to people and the environment.

About metal-based nano-fertilizers

  • Active inputs are metal nanoparticles (silver, copper, zinc, iron, manganese) smaller than 100 nanometres.
  • They mainly deliver micronutrients; silver and copper also have antimicrobial action, so one product can feed and protect.
  • Application modes: foliar spray, seed treatment or drip irrigation.

About the Fertiliser Control Order (FCO), 1985

  • Framework made via the Essential Commodities Act, 1955; the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department issues it, working with the Department of Fertilizers.
  • Governs manufacture, import, distribution, sale and quality of fertilizers, including specifications, packaging, labelling and testing.
  • Amended in 2021 to recognise nano-fertilizers as a category.

Exam angle

  • Nano-urea gives nitrogen; nano-DAP gives nitrogen and phosphorus; metal-based types give micronutrients.
  • FCO is not administered by SEBI.
  • Related terms: AgroCopper, AgroBeize, FCO registration.
