Why in the news

The government listed its farm mechanization and digital agriculture efforts.

Key facts

  • SMAM (Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization): implemented by states under RKVY; helps buy machinery and post-harvest equipment, set up Custom Hiring Centres and Farm Machinery Banks, and demonstrate and buy Kisan drones.
  • Namo Drone Didi: Central Sector Scheme (2023-24 to 2025-26) giving 15,000 drones to women SHGs; 500 delivered in 2023-24, 14,500 due by FY 2025-26.
  • Digital Agriculture Mission (2024-25 to 2025-26): launched September 2024, ₹2,817 crore.

Mission components

  • AgriStack, Krishi Decision Support System, soil fertility and profile mapping.
  • AI tools: Kisan e-Mitra chatbot on PM-KISAN queries and a real-time AI detector of abiotic crop stress.
