Why in the news

The PAI was brought out to make official data usable at village level, since open data often goes unused by local bodies.

The problem

  • Data.gov.in (under NDSAP, 2012) holds many datasets, but complex formats, weak visualisation and volume limit use.
  • Village, block and district data mostly serves higher tiers; portals favour macro analysis, so local decisions rely on intuition.
