Railways completes 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang line in Mizoram

Indian Railways has completed a 51.38 km line to Sairang in Mizoram, taking rail connectivity near the state capital Aizawl. Safety clearance was received in June 2025.

About the strategic link
Sairang is expected to serve as a transit point for goods moving from the India-funded Sittwe Port in Myanmar. This fits the Act East Policy, launched in November 2014, which treats the Northeast as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia.
