From 1 August 2025 NPCI tightened UPI usage to improve efficiency and curb fraud.
Limits at a glance

Key facts
- Applies to Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and other providers.
- Failed autopay debits are retried, then auto-cancelled.
- Payers see the recipient’s registered name before paying.
- Penalties: API restrictions, onboarding suspension, fines.
