CBIC’s New GST Invoice Management System Plan
Why in the news
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) was building a better invoice management system to end avoidable automatic mismatch notices and ease dispute handling.
Key facts
- Minor differences between returns will no longer trigger auto-generated notices; roughly 2 lakh notices a year now involve nearly ₹10 lakh crore.
- Taxpayers fix mismatches directly on the portal.
- GSTR-1A and the existing inward invoice system are optional and not fully aligned; the new tool will harmonise them and allow correction while preparing the annual return.
- Aim: lighter compliance and less litigation.
| Form | Purpose |
|---|---|
| GSTR-1 | Outward supplies |
| GSTR-2A/2B | Inward supplies |
| GSTR-6 | ITC distribution |
| GSTR-3B | Monthly tax-payment return |
