About Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
PMUY was launched in 2016 to replace traditional biomass fuels with LPG, focusing on economically weaker households and women. The government and oil marketing companies bear the cost of installation, the first refill, the stove, hose and regulator. Phase 1 gave 8 crore connections, and Phase 2 began in August 2021. The scheme aims to improve health, cut pollution and deforestation, lower carbon emissions and reduce the drudgery of collecting fuel.
