Why in the news
Ethiopia said it will take up India’s DAY-NRLM approach to cut rural poverty and lift women’s incomes, a sign of global recognition for India’s rural development method.
About DAY-NRLM
- Flagship rural poverty reduction and women’s empowerment programme of the Ministry of Rural Development.
- Works through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for livelihoods, financial inclusion and community institutions.
- Launched in 2011 as NRLM, restructuring the earlier Swarnajayanti Grameen Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY); renamed in 2016.
- Funded jointly by the Centre and States; linked to SDG 1 and SDG 5.
