B+H Solutions to Invest EUR 1 Million in Nano-Fertilizers
Why in the news
B+H Solutions GmbH, a German agri-tech company, announced a EUR 1 million India investment for 2026. Its General Manager and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Laura Wieler, said the Fertilizer Control Order (FCO) nano registration puts the firm on course for strong growth as awareness spreads.
Key facts
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Products sold in India | Eight |
| AgroBeize | Flagship, built only for India; silver plus copper nanoparticles; also a registered disinfectant |
| AgroCopper | Nano copper; newly FCO-registered, enabling legal sale across India |
| Nano iron | FCO registration pending |
Positioning
- Unlike nano-urea (nitrogen) and nano-DAP (nitrogen and phosphorus), these are metal-based inputs.
- Pitched as “fertilizer plus”: boosts plant immunity, lowers disease pressure, protects crops and supplies micronutrients such as copper and iron.
Evidence cited
- ICAR Bangalore tomato trials of AgroBeize showed a 24% higher yield than conventional fungicides, with better quality and less blight.
- The company claims gains up to 30% in tomatoes, chillies, black pepper, pomegranates and flowers.
- OECD studies are cited for safety to people and the environment.
About metal-based nano-fertilizers
- Active inputs are metal nanoparticles (silver, copper, zinc, iron, manganese) smaller than 100 nanometres.
- They mainly deliver micronutrients; silver and copper also have antimicrobial action, so one product can feed and protect.
- Application modes: foliar spray, seed treatment or drip irrigation.
About the Fertiliser Control Order (FCO), 1985
- Framework made via the Essential Commodities Act, 1955; the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department issues it, working with the Department of Fertilizers.
- Governs manufacture, import, distribution, sale and quality of fertilizers, including specifications, packaging, labelling and testing.
- Amended in 2021 to recognise nano-fertilizers as a category.
Exam angle
- Nano-urea gives nitrogen; nano-DAP gives nitrogen and phosphorus; metal-based types give micronutrients.
- FCO is not administered by SEBI.
