Why in the news
A railway line first planned almost a century ago got a fresh start in June 2026, when the government announced the revival of the Qadian-Beas project in Punjab and set aside funds for it. Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu made the announcement.

About the project
The line was approved in 1928-29 by the then North-Western Railway but was discontinued in the 1930s. It was brought back in the Supplementary Railway Budget 2010-11 and has now been revived after roughly a century since the original proposal.
