Why in the news
During Prime Minister Modi’s trip to Nice, India and France announced thirteen results of their talks, spanning technology, space, trade and people-to-people links.

Background
- Strategic Partnership began in 1998 and ranges from defence and space to civil nuclear power, tech, trade, climate, education and people-to-people contact.
- UPI is India’s flagship digital payments DPI, run by NPCI. Overseas presence: Bhutan (2021, first), Singapore (2023), UAE (2023), Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Maldives (2024) and now France (2026).
- Station F: the largest startup campus in Europe, located in Paris, founded 2017 by Xavier Niel, with over 1,000 startups.
- INRIA: the French public research body for computing and applied maths, founded 1967, based at Le Chesnay.
- ICCR: autonomous body under MEA, founded 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, headquartered in New Delhi; runs ICCR Chairs abroad, scholarships and cultural festivals.
- ISRO-CNES: partnership since the 1960s; CNES is France’s space agency (1961); TRISHNA is planned, while Megha-Tropiques flew in 2011 and SARAL-AltiKa in 2013.
Space programmes mentioned
- Gaganyaan: India’s first human spaceflight programme, sending a crew to low earth orbit for 3 days on the human-rated LVM3; first crewed flight planned around 2026-27.
- Bharatiya Antariksh Station: planned indigenous space station; first module around 2028-29, full operation targeted for 2035, five modules eventually.
