Why in the news
The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) celebrated its 56th Foundation Day on August 1, 2026 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh presided, and a new cotton mission was highlighted.

- Cotton Productivity Mission – Kapas Kanti: approved with a five-year outlay of Rs 5,659 crore; aims at higher yields, modern processing and sustainable cultivation.
- Kapas Darshan Bulletin: newly launched advisory for growers covering weather, markets, scientific practices and government schemes.
- MSP procurement in 2025-26: over 522 lakh quintals of seed cotton (kapas) from about 24 lakh farmer transactions; Rs 41,530 crore sent directly to farmers’ accounts.
- The MSP for the 2026-27 cotton season was raised by about 7%.
