The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on 13 October 2026 that India’s Shubman Gill and Shafali Verma had won the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for September 2026.
Key facts
- Record fifth award: Gill now has the most wins by a men’s player. His earlier wins came in January 2023, September 2023, February 2025 and July 2025.
- Men’s nominees: Abhishek Sharma (India) and Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe).
- Gill vs West Indies: he made 110 in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram and an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls in the second at Guwahati.
- ODI records: the 223 is the highest score in a successful ODI chase, and his 200 in 117 balls is the fastest ODI double century.
- Shafali Verma: second award, beating Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka) and Sree Charani (India).
- Shafali’s month: she helped India win the Women’s Asia Cup and Asian Games gold, scoring a maiden T20I century (100 off 49 balls) in the Asian Games semi-final against Bangladesh and taking six wickets.

About the award
The ICC Player of the Month awards honour the best men’s and women’s performers across international cricket each month. Pakistan’s Babar Azam is second on the men’s list with three wins. This was only the fifth time that both awards went to players from one country, and the third time for India.
