About CAQM and GRAP

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has made regulation and emission control of DG sets compulsory in Delhi-NCR. The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is the staged set of anti-pollution measures applied as air quality worsens, mainly during winter, when the Package-IV area faces severe pollution.

Exam angle

  • Expand RECD: Retrofit Emission Control Device.
  • Know the bodies: CAQM issues directions; GRAP is the action framework.
  • Remember numbers: 25 DG sets, 8.7 km stretch.

Test yourself

1. What does RECD stand for in NHAI's anti-pollution measure on Dwarka Expressway?

NHAI will install Retrofit Emission Control Devices on diesel generator sets on the expressway.

2. On how many diesel generator sets will NHAI install RECDs on Package-IV of Dwarka Expressway?

The plan covers 25 DG sets used for lighting and related works on Package-IV.

3. Which body has mandated emission control measures for DG sets in Delhi-NCR, prompting NHAI's RECD move?

NHAI's move follows CAQM directions on regulating DG set emissions in Delhi-NCR under GRAP.
