Coal India H1 FY27 offtake rises 7.6% to 384.2 million tonnes

The Ministry of Coal released Coal India Limited’s (CIL) supply figures for the first half of 2026-27, showing higher offtake driven largely by demand from power plants.

- Total offtake (H1 FY27): 384.2 million tonnes (MT), up 27.2 MT or 7.6% from 357.0 MT in H1 FY26.
- Power-sector despatch: 302.8 MT against 285.4 MT, a rise of 6.1%; this is nearly 79% of total offtake.
- Q2 offtake: 186.04 MT versus 166.04 MT, growth of 12.05%. Q2 supplies to power plants rose 11% to 148.20 MT.
- September 2026: total supplies of 61.20 MT (12.5% higher than 54.40 MT); power-sector supplies of 48.90 MT (up 10.63%).
- Pithead stock: 63 MT liquidated during H1.
- Coal-based generation: 640.05 billion units (BU), up 9.9% from 582.5 BU.
