Why in the news
On 2 October 2026 the Ministry of MSME highlighted the progress of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), sharing cumulative figures since FY 2014-15 along with enterprise success stories.

- PMEGP supports setting up of new micro enterprises, mainly in the non-farm sector in rural and semi-urban areas.

Success stories
- Skinkaanti Ayurveda, Parwanoo (Himachal Pradesh): founded by Pooja Sharma with a Rs 25 lakh project financed by SBI; turnover now Rs 30 crore with 300 workers, 95% of them women. It is described as India’s largest handmade soap unit.
- Ess Pee Quality Products, Mohali (Punjab): founded by Surender Pal Singh Nagi with a Rs 21 lakh project financed by Bank of Baroda; turnover Rs 38 crore, about 130 employees, exporting honey, cookies and jams to 26 countries.
About PMEGP
PMEGP is a credit-linked subsidy scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises that encourages self-employment by helping first-generation entrepreneurs start micro units. Applications are made online through the PMEGP portal of the MSME Ministry.
