Ladakh: 28 geographic features marked on Survey of India maps
Why in the news
On 2 October 2026 the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced that 28 locations and geographic features in Ladakh have been marked on the official maps of the Survey of India.
Key facts
- Number: 28 features, named in consultation with the UT of Ladakh.
- Purpose: To allow accurate identification of these places and to raise public awareness.
- Peaks: Atisha Giri, Kanishka Peak, Martand Giri, Zorawar Peak, Rinchen Zangpo, Sakyasri Giri, Marpa Lotsava Ri, Milarepa Kangri, Shiva Ri and Maheshvara Ri.
- Passes: Chapchingal Pass and Shachmirk Pass.
- Glaciers: Parpik and Skamri.
- Water bodies and valley: Guru Rinpoche (lake), Yangpa River and Shkorga Valley.
- Other places on the list include Brangsa, Kuksel, Karun Pir, Gogra, Panglung, Drak Karpo, Jolmori and Kumarayana Point.
