The Cabinet approved the second phase of a scheme for strategic villages on India’s land frontiers.
Key facts
- VVP-II: outlay ₹6,839 crore, 100% Central funding.
- Period: 2025-26 to 2028-29.
- Focus: international land borders (ILBs) apart from the northern borders handled in phase I.
- Coverage: 17 states and UTs, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
Objectives
- Improve livelihoods and living conditions; make borders secure.
- Villagers to serve as “eyes and ears” of border forces and help check trans-border crime.
