Why in the news

Banking, pension, railway-ticketing and postal changes took effect from 1 October 2025, aiming at speed, clarity and choice.

Key facts

  • Cheque clearing: continuous mode replaces batch; full roll-out follows after 2 January 2026.
  • NPS: multiple schemes under one PRAN across different CRAs.
  • IRCTC: Aadhaar authentication mandatory in some cases for general online booking, to curb misuse.
  • Bank charges: PNB, YES Bank and others revised locker rent, stop-payment, nomination and failed standing-instruction fees.
  • Speed Post: tariff revision, OTP-based delivery, GST shown separately.
